Could you explain what factors influence the overall quality of digital video and how they affect the way people watch it?

Digital video is video content that is represented in binary format, making it possible to store, transmit, and process the content digitally. The quality of the digital video is affected by factors such as resolution, bitrate, codec, compression, color depth, frame rate, and playback device. These variables affect the video’s visual quality, such as clarity, sharpness, color accuracy, and motion smoothness, which also affect the viewer’s perception of the content.

Monroe Madness

Truly, I have no connection to Marilyn Monroe. Despite this, my fiancée’s sister is obsessed with this celebrity. I was having a hard time deciding what to pick, and a memory of all the pictures I saw in the younger sisters room hit me. I decided to work off this iconic black and white picture of the woman.

The hardest part of this project for me was using the quick select tool. Often it wouldn’t capture the edges or suddenly jump to selecting the whole image. I think because we are using older images, the lines the tool would generally gravitate toward were very faded. Because of this, there are areas of my photo where I had to sloppily use the paint tool to fill in the black and white portions.

Compressing…Compressing…COMPRESSING!

I know that a lot of the times, compressing a video can bring down the quality of the video. With videos taking up a lot of space and compressing reducing the file, it is known that the quality will decrease. A question that has surfaced around and one that I have wondered about ,is there a way that you can compress a video and reduce the file without losing the quality of the video.

My campaign life of going door 2 door helping out a friend running for town council.

During this time of year, my Saturdays consist of campaigning outdoors and getting my clients messages out or helping a friend with a local race. This past Saturday I went to northwest Indiana (the region, google it and be amazed) and helped a friend who is running for town council knock on some doors. I realize this video doesn’t tell exactly how to get ready, but let me explain the pics. This is how we get ready, we are grabbing yard signs, going over maps, and getting other materials to head out the door. What I failed to do is capture video of all this because it was the last thing I my mind, but one of the other without my knowledge was capturing photos and so I learned how to drop photos in video (which to be honest, had no idea how to) and made those as a part of what we do. Yes, it is probably boring to most of you, but this is my lively hood and I enjoy being out of the office at times like this. All of the footage was shot on my iPhone 11.

The most challenging part of this editing was getting it to flow and making sure I captured what I needed to make this work. I also couldn’t for the life of me put the words I wanted to in the video, so I gave up and moved along due to frustration.

I learned a lot about editing a video, I believe once I really dig into this it will make much more sense and just be like riding a bike. I hope you enjoy this video and I can’t wait to edit more videos and learn this as I go through this course!

A Simple Image

The reading was rather fascinating. I never thought about how much is in a simple digital image. I was able to understand the process of digitization and how each pixel stores color information of the corresponding position of the image. This being said, how do megapixel’s calculate in a digital photograph?

Education Ethics when it comes to cellphone use

Turkle’s ideas regarding cell phone use are pretty interesting to read about. Most of us have a phone and we all get tempted to use it in class even if we’re not supposed to. Most students get distracted while in class because listening to the professor give a lecture gets really boring. So, most students need an escape from reality to a digital world, in their phones. They want to check up on how their friends are doing and they do that by texting or even checking social media. For most people, life is on their phones and they feel very connected and accepted while on a phone device.

t’s funny because it reminds me of a Black Mirror episode called Nosedive where it’s a society based on social media and phones, and you need to have a 4 or higher to be considered popular and entitled to. We ourselves see the phone devices we use especially in a classroom setting, is our own little world just like the Nosedive episode and we constantly get addicted to it each day and becomes so intense that our concentration isn’t on the classroom anymore, we are more focused on our phones. 

Multi-tasking became such a big deal for most students, as they tend to check their phones and work at the same time, most of our mind is designed to do one thing at a time without getting too overwhelmed. Classrooms should examine students on their phone usage and for those addicted to their phone use, need to go do a cellphone recovery program and go a day without technology and see how it feels to be disconnected. 

My own experience with cellphone use is very different compared to most students. I have ADHD and it’s really hard to focus in class, and I hear and see students on their devices all the time and got distracting that I lost focus in the class itself. Now, I don’t feel too distracted and yes, my mind is readjusting to this college setting vs. my high school experience.

How to make the frame Rate?

After reading chapter 6 the one thing that stood out to me was how were people able to determine the frame rate for every film? Also how do they determine the precise amount of frame based on the video type?

What is CCCF?

Digital video is a very complex in the many steps and formatting it has to be. One way digital video can be talked about is the way it is read digitally. There are different types of Codecs that videos are formatted at for viewing. A codec is defined by  being a device or program that compresses data to enable faster transmission and decompresses received data.” Certain Videos have different types of filetypes because the software that is used within the camera and also the way the brand of camera deems to be the most optimal for it.

My question is why doesn’t every technological device use the same formatting? Is it a marketing purpose to earn money from a certain company so they produce a better product?

What Does Theatre, Film, Jesus, and Portfolio Have in Common?

I’m a Theatre Major with a Media Communications minor at North Central University in Minneapolis. I’m planning on working in the Film Industry and Theatre Industry as an actress and director; while being a Christian witness to the people there.

Ever since I was 14 I felt that God was telling me to go into the arts. To my knowledge there aren’t that many true Christians who work in the industry. The actors and directors are practically gods and Hollywood is like heaven to many Americans. The actors and directors are just as lost in this world as everyone else. They are not above needing God. All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.

I wanted to go and become someone they can trust. I’ve always said, “Why would God give someone a passion, if they weren’t supposed to us it.” My passion is Theatre and Film. So, why shouldn’t I use it for God’s glory?

I want to put my best foot forward. So, I’ve been working on building physical portfolio, resume, and repertoire for Theatre. I have my worked printed out and stored. Unfortunately, in the digital age that we are currently living in and will continue living in, it is necessary to have all our work uploaded on to the web as well as stored on our personal devices.

So, I feel that it is important to have a digital portfolio to show as an example of the work that I have done as an independent filmmaker separate from an organized production company. I want it to look professional and clean. I want the Artistic Director and Producers to be able to understand the work I’ve done, and the skill set I have.

I hope to be able to show them that I understand a broad scope of the jobs, skills, and tools needed to be successful in the industry. I striving to learn all the tools necessary to be successful in my respective career, as well as being the best at what I do that I can be.
